I needed a good attorney to file bankruptcy for the first time and only time in my life. I was very nervous and I had no idea what I was getting into. I met with attorney Bear and he assured me I could file a chapter 7 with no problems and its simple and easy. I felt excited to finally have a lawyer to help me with this issue.I didn't know it would turn into a even worse situation for me. I was told to get a list of paperwork that he would need and I did everything for him. I was told to give $1250 dollars he said around 350 for a filing fee 900 for attorney fee. I Paid upfront right away. I worked to get all the paper work necessary to file my case and I would email and try to call attorney Bear multiple times without a reply, even after I turned in all my paper work. I had to call him and continue to bother him to ask about any updates and if I had all the necessary paperwork. Weeks later I finally got to meet with Attorney Bear he pulled me into his meeting room and told me I will be filing a chapter 13 instead of a 7 and that he would need an additional 2250 dollars to file it. My stomach turned and I was so lost and confused. I told attorney Bear I need to think about it and I left. I called 3 other attorneys and met with one, who told me I have a strong chapter 7. The next day I went back to Attorney Bear to get my money back. They said I couldn't have the check until I signed paperwork stating that I will pay 900 of my money for time spent on my paper work. I didn't sign it in the beginning or at this time and I wasn't going to. Attorney Bear came into the lobby and continued to try to get me to sign the paperwork I wouldn't and I asked him " Did you contact me once while working on my case? Did you inform me of it being a chapter 13 at all?" his answer was "no'. I cant speak for any of the other lawyers but I got taken advantage of by Attorney Bear. He never gave me my 900 back. I never sighed any paperwork stating I would pay for the fees. I would of never continued with him working on my case if he would of communicated with me that I couldn't file a chapter 7. He is a criminal and a scam artist. DO NOT WORK WITH HIM. I also received paper work on his other clients with personal information on it. very unprofessional. I went with another attorney and filed a chapter 7 within a week and I've been discharged already.

Worked with Charles Bear on our will and he was very attentive to detail. Understood what we wanted and very gracious about all the changes we made along the way.

I hired Mr. Brown this year to handle a very difficult Real Estate situation for me. I looked at several attorney's in Portage and Mr. Brown's credentials determined my decision to hire his services.
When I arrived for my first initial consultation I was greeted with a smile, served some delicious coffee while I waited and was made to feel very comfortable. Mr. Browns assistant was very pleasant.
The case I had was very difficult and unusual and Mr. Brown took the time to research and come up with a strategy that won the decision for me in the shortest amount of time.
If you are looking for a honest recommendation and you are in need of a lawyer that will take care of your needs then I highly recommend Mr. Brown's services. You will be very glad you made the same decision that I made to hire him.
Good service. These guys know law. They helped me with my family custody case.

Charles Bear, attorney part of the firm of Randall L Brown & Associates, PLC of Portage, Michigan helped a couple of dead beats rip-off my deceased mother & step father. Mother was in her 80s, dying of stomach cancer & and on numerous mind altering drugs including morphine. With the help of Charles Bear the two deadbeats got mother to sign a will leaving them everything. Needless to say mother was not in her right mind at the time - didn't know what day of the week it was & talked continuously about relatives visiting her that had been dead for 50 years. The deadbeats with the help of Charles Bear also became guardians of the step father in the nursing home & more or less lived in the family residence "rent" free, The nursing home wanted to put the step father on Medicaid. Because he had extinguished his own funds. However that required a signature from the guardians. With the help again of Charles Bear the deadbeats refused to do it & in the meanwhile cashed the step father's pension and social security checks, spent the money on themselves & to pay attorney Bear. Finally Social Services got into the act. The deadbeats were evicted. The step father's checks were turned over to the nursing home. With no money left Charles Bear dropped the deadbeats & stopped representing them. Charles Bear is not a stupid man. Yet he helped these two deadbeats rip off the elderly. He is as guilty as they & his license to practice law should be revoked.

Was referred here by state bar. The attorney I spoke with was rude, would not listen to my case, and then quoted me $5,000 to even look at it.
