Great legal advice

There is a reason this place gets a low rating by so many.

Ken Maisonet is a liar and the rudest person I've ever encountered. DOn't waste your time. This place is useless.

Never got to speak with anyone else but the answering machine telling you about the wait time. Sad, when so many need just a little help and you can do most of the work yourself. It is NOT easy by far, but you have to at least try to do what you can when your credit is at risk because he never paid a bill, leaves the state and you with over 20,000$ in unpaid electric, cable etc. It was typical as I found out. He wants to be married but it wasn't important to keep a roof over his family's head,or pay for the children he helped create to the tune of over 8000$ in arrears. They only work at a staffing agency for a company that is usually packing and shipping. I listened to complaining about not having insurance, not enough money for the rent, stays until the company has finished their vacation schedule and never hires the people from the agency. They let them go. Now, they have a paid vacation for a year or more at base pay of a few paychecks. As long as they just type in any place looking for help anywhere in the state, the state just keeps giving them a check each week as long as their information from their computer account is done in time for the week. And they say they are looking for work. Unbelievable... I don't know how they can live with themselves. Then back to his parents, in their 80s with his kids. Someone has to put their foot down and make him be held responsible for his actions. Not this never ending cycle I watched, it's for people who are down on their luck. Not guys running from child support, alimony cases and" I don't have any money". How did you get to Washington State?? from Hamden after living with a guy you met in the shelter? These guys can pick out the people who will feel sorry for them, and in the end they walk away leaving you shattered and bankrupt. Your father gave you what he had,a good name. It doesn't matter to these guys. Their 24 yr old kids are still living with his parents, none ever learn how to care for themselves, just how to scam people into feeling sorry for them. At 53, still playing games with anyone who will believe they are down on their luck. Most people would try to help someone who is. But these guys scam people out of cars, loans, they take your jewelry to a pawn shop for 20$ for soda and cigarettes and you are asking where your grandmother's ring is.
I lived it ashamedly for 6 yrs. I gave until it made me physically I'll. Now I am looking for an attorney to help try and get at least one of them to take responsibility for his actions probably for the first time in his life. Trying to explain to the court how he is really. I don't want to take him for anything but what he is responsible for for a change.

This number was given to me by a lady from CT legal services. I call and a recording comes on they're only handling extreme emergency calls?! Well wth!!!

I'm a little confused as to the purpose of this place
& their employees seem just as confused. The website for SLS states they offer legal advice and/or referrals to pro bono attorneys.

After the "advocate" i spoke with finished rambling about how to file paperwork that I've already filed, I asked" how would I get referred to a pro bono attorney? " She explained that they "don't do that", they just offer Legal advice. Well, you may want to tell your website that..

Everything she explained to me is on the CT judicial site. Why on Earth would I waste my time speaking to these people, waiting on hold, and being transferred numerous times to be told information I can get online myself?

Ultimately, the concept of this place sounds great but that's about the only positive thing I can say.

This is the fourth time I’ve tried using these services. First time I was given incorrect advice that caused unnecessary anxiety. Second time I spoke with a young, very professional person who really helped me and confirmed the previous person was wrong. Most recently I spoke with an extremely condescending woman who had to keep putting me on hold to get answers. This is the second time I’ve spoken with this particular legal assistant and she was condescending and impatient both times. She ends the phone call in a sweet sounding voice but sounds miserable and condensing during the entire conversation. If she doesn’t like helping people she should find another job. Very disappointing.

Great service

Wouldn't listen nor give any helpful advice. I was told by these clowns a year ago to go to the Fair Rent Commission but the problem was I didn't have a lease so they couldn't do anything. Was told by Statewide in April to get everything in writing only for my landlord to refuse to put anything in writing and now I'm facing eviction. I have lived at my address for 5 yrs and always paid my rent while rats, roaches, two broken windows, no smoke detectors, holes in the ceiling yet I'm told by Statewide I have no recourse and to pay the rent. Now I'm facing eviction and it seems Connecticut as a whole is oppressive to the poor person who has only a $800 month income at a apartment that raised my rent from 625.00 to 750.00 last June on the promise of repairing the place.

i lost my case because of statewide legal. i was speaking to a lawyer he was very rude and nasty. he hung up on me. found out he was the one who was suppose to be looking for a pro bono lawyer to help with my case. the day he hung up on me , he stopped looking for an lawyer to help represent me in my case. from that day I was giving nothing but attitudes. statewide legal services screwed me. i am going to put in a complaint as for everyone that got screwed by statewide legal services.

I called this for legal help but a lady attended me of name rosa Betancourt that is extremely rude and did not let me talk anything and asking questions I just interrupted at the moment without letting me talk is extremely rude and spoiled and very bad attention

Any place that offers free services and volunteer work is a 5* star IMO..

This world doesn't have enough compassionate people and entities. Way to many selfish & self-centered monsters. Which is why the world will probably never get much better.

But thanks to people, groups, and companies like Statewide Legal Services we are able to maintain our humanity to an extent..

Supposed to be there to aid in legal help. No way of help they are especially when they tell you to literally prepare for the worst instead of preparing you for your case. Worthless in my opinion.

I have been helped by the Hartford area, by legal aid and I've had help numerous times. I would have never, gotten through, the bad situations, if I hadn't the professional help and dedication from these Attorneys. If your case is doable, good proof, and you have proof documented. It makes your case a smoother transaction. The time and their service to individuals whom have no where else to turn, and can't afford these big attorneys fees, I think it's an honor to be seen and their time. Everything we think that is unfair or unjust. It's the Society we live in. But I commend those who help the needy or unfortunate. There have been times in my experience that I've thought, Why and things may not go my way even if the other party was really at fault. But one thing they have taught me over there years, how to at least protecting myself and bringing good proof to the table. Thanks Hartford Branch

Extremely rude. Hung up on me. Keeps calling to get ahold of somebody else. Short tempered and extremely annoying. I hope that their business fails. This is no way to run any sort.of company.

Rude , no help , refuse to listen.
Last time I will ever call this place. No one gets my donation anymore.
