I am a business in Washington State that needed legal assistance in a matter of employee severance in NY State. It is 4 months since Attorney Joseph Francis Bergh of Syracuse was supposed to follow up with me on final billing and refund on a case of employee severance. The file was closed in February, 2018. I believe money refund was due. I have emailed him in April and May he has not responded to emails requesting the billing and refund. I feel that he has not acted in a professional manner in the matter of retainer, final billing, and refund payment and therefore would not recommend him.

Not only does he lack basic professional attire, but his lack of preparation and hygiene is present in his work ethic. I was referred to him by the Onondaga County BAR Association. When at that time I was refereed to him, they did not tell me that his first consult is free. I spoke to Joseph for an hour or two, he promptly accepted $100 taking advantage of my lack of understanding. Once I was informed by the BAR association that he was NOT supposed to accept any money, I contacted Mr. Bergh numerous times. He failed to send a check in the mail. I traveled up to his cubical which he rents from another Firm. When I asked for the money he became very aggressive to the point he was shaking and sweating. When I told him I would contact the police he got even more hostile and began to walk towards me. At this point I made it clear if he stepped one foot closer or touched me in any way I would have no problem contacting Law Enforcement. Mr. Bergh stated that I was "desperate" and "Crazy". And also assured me that he "never wants to see my face again and I am not allowed to come back". Which, if he was a real attorney, he would know that he doesn't have the authority to trespass me from the premises, the owner of the establishment does. To top it all off, Silly Mr. Bergh did all of this in front of a client he was consulting. When I asked him to step out and discuss this issue in the lobby, he replied with "if my client is going to pay me, she's also going to be my witness to this." Unprofessional, disgusting, and lacks basic understanding of work ethic.
