Had an inquiry and was told I could file court paperwork at any probate office. They would do court to court correspondence. I tried at my local probate. The lady behind the counter advised me to find another lawyer because that was not true. Needless to say, I didnt hire.

I initially went to Sarah’s based on word of mouth reputation, plus it doesn’t hurt that I know her parents and actually worked with her mom years ago. (If the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I figured I’d be OK.)
The will that my wife and I had done years ago was long out-of-date and we were planning on updating it around the same time that I became responsible for settling my parent’s estate. In the mid-2000’s my mom and dad had a Trust prepared for them by a downstate estate planning firm (that my dad had connected with at a “free” library event). Despite my pleading with them to utilize somebody local, they paid this Detroit-area firm, with a revolving door of staff, to author their Trust. In addition, their “expert” in elderlaw gave them some patently incorrect information which meant I needed help getting through the Probate Court “Personal Representative” process, despite being a Trustee on my folk’s Trust.
I went to the Shepherd office and worked with Brenda (in fact, I’ve never met Sarah) and have been absolutely delighted with their service. Brenda not only cleaned up the estate muddle my parent’s Trust had generated, but she was and has been spot on point when my wife and I went to her to draft our own Trust and said, “Help us to not leave the kids a mess”. Easy to work with, insightful, plain language interpretation of legalese and comfortable are just some of the descriptors that apply.
