My mother and I recently worked with Maryellen Sullivan to create Wills, Advanced Health Care Directives, and Durable Powers of Attorney for both of us. She was so incredibly easy to work with. Maryellen guided us through the whole process and made sure that we understood each document and that they reflected our wishes.

When the mother of my children filed a motion to amend child custody approximately one year after my divorce was finalized, I knew I needed to take action to defend myself and the best interests of my children. Not only did this motion seek to lessen the time I would have with my children (at that time, it was equally shared 50/50), it also sought to remove my parental rights and responsibilities (at that time, that was also a 50/50 split), and make her home the primary residence (at that time, that was also a 50/50 split). Years prior, I had purchased a legal plan through one of my friends. But because my ex wife was also covered as a dependent while we were married, the provider law firm couldn’t represent me and they had to find me a different attorney. The provider law firm of my legal service, eventually found me an attorney. This attorney only charged $125 an hour. I thought that was great until we started to get steam-rolled by my ex wife’s attorney. I guess you do get what you pay for?

Another of my closest friends had been using Port City Legal for his divorce and, after hearing the trouble I was experiencing, he told me I had to at least give Port City Legal a call. After speaking with Attorney Joe Lewis, I hired them to represent me immediately…well after firing my prior lawyer. I was immediately blown away by Port City Legal. At times, my emotions ran high but after contacting Port City Legal, I would feel so much better. Port City Legal kept me up to date on things so I wasn’t always wondering what was next. I’m proud to say that the case went very well for my children and me. I just had to share with experience in this forum.

Maryellen Sullivan helped me navigate various estate questions and issues. I was lost trying to piece together information on my own; but she explained various components of the estate process clearly and in a way that put my mind at ease. She was kind, insightful, and incredibly competent. I trust her and would recommend her.

When I met Mr. Lewis, I was hopeful that my family law matter would be handled in a knowledgeable, respectful and professional manner. However, half way through the process I had to remind Mr. Lewis that he was my attorney, not my ex's. He called me by the wrong name, which showed he had no idea who I was or what the details of my case were. By that time, I had paid the retainer and was nearing the court date. I had to call several times in the weeks leading up to court to settle the details of my custody agreement and remind him of deadlines. When those deadlines were not met, I had to call several times during the two days leading up to court to ask him to send the paperwork to my ex's lawyer. After court, Mr. Lewis owed me the refund of the balance of my retainer. A month after court, after sending several emails and calling the office asking where my refund was, I informed him that I would be visiting his office if the refund check was not in my hands within the next week. The check was in my mailbox two days later. After speaking with a colleague, I was informed that my ex's substance abuse disorder should have been noted in the custody agreement so a safety plan could be made in the event of a relapse. No such safety plan was created and I am now in need of a new lawyer to fix the errors and oversights by Mr. Lewis. I do not recommend hiring Mr. Lewis or Port City Legal under any circumstances. You will left needing another lawyer to correct his mistakes and the extra work and grief you will encounter is not worth the high retainer.

We worked with Maryellen Sullivan. She was extremely competent, smart and compassionate. We instantly trusted her to prepare our wills, health directives and durable power of attorney documents. Attorney Kristina Kurlanski was very thoughtful and responsive throughout the whole process. She was helpful in working through the times that I was very frustrated and upset, keeping me focused on the things that were most important.

We won our hearing, and then a couple months later had to go back because the other party was in contempt, but Kristina was well prepared and was able to negotiate a favorable settlement and avoid having to drag things out through another hearing.

Michael McAllister is the best attorney that I have had to work with. He has a down to earth outlook. I had the best representation with each and every case. Michael is very efficient with his time and the billing cycles. My case was for custody with the state, to get my children from their mother. The state awarded me custody after my children were removed from their mother’s home. I had judges telling me no you don’t have custody and when they looked at the paperwork they were like wow you do “that was under Michaels representation I got that custody “I also went through a protection order case that he got dropped with his knowledge and down to earth approach. I also had to get modifications of parental rights case with him. This went very well with my kids interested in mind and met. I would not hastate to use him. He has a 5 star rating in my opinion on a 0 to 5 star rating.
