Not impressed at all. They do not help everybody. They pick and choose their cases. And they take cases where there is none

I was referred to come here by the courts for legal assistance to get my juvenile record expunged. If your'e not financially equipped to hire a private attorney I was told they will help. I was truly in a time crisis but that didn't seem to matter here. My luck fell short waiting on a response. I was finally contacted by a lady name Doreen who took minimal efforts in linking me with an attorney. We never got past me explaining my financial situation. I told her I was unemployed at the moment and she wanted to know my spouses income, no problem I didn't know the exact amount at that time. I gave her a ball park figure, but she demanded that I be exact. So she insisted that I get it together and she'll call me back to complete everything. A week goes past and I had no calls from her or voice message. I called her direct phone line multiple times to get her voicemail and finally she answers. Told me she tried contacting me and couldn't get in touch, so she denied my application for legal help, but then said she'll reinstate it, she said she was busy at the moment, so once again she'll call me back to finish this step in a few hours that day. Once again I didn't receive a call from her or anybody. I called and called just to get the voicemail again. So I finally gave up. Luckily, i'm not a dormant, begging for help type of person. I literally spent weeks at the law libraries and courthouses learning what I need to do because the private attorney's were price quoting me way too high($2000) and I just couldn't afford it. I'm very disappointed that some of the people that have positions to help the people, truly do not care about nothing but their paychecks and will perform minimal efforts and lead someone in need of help down a dead end. On the other hand, I am grateful that this played out the way it did. I learned you get what you pay for! So I had to stop waiting for help and payed myself in knowledge, which payed off in the court as well as my future. I been granted the expungement I needed. No thanks to Doreen or NLSA and I say that with a big smile. I will never refer anyone to reach out to them for a situation like mine. Do yourself a favor and hit the books, learn and don't hesitate to take action.

No help at all, they were suppose to represent me at a hearing. In turn the attorney showed up, and left last minute because she felt it was a case she could not win. Attorney was rude, and did not care about the case. Literally walked out minutes before the hearing started. Left me there alone to defend myself at a court hearing.

I waited through multiple callers first time around for the representative to hang up on me as soon as she answered my call. The second time calling I waited for 20 minutes on the phone to be transferred to voicemail where I left a detailed message and never received a call back. Horrible customer service, don't waste your time with NLSA.

You don't need referrals but the lady at the front desk told me " you need a referal to use our services" then shut the window and refused to help. Just can't get past the liar at the front desk.

They really don't offer help for cases outside of Allegheny county so that's huge negative to me.

They just care about women like men don't have any right to be with their kids.

Great option for lower income people whom need representation for civil legal matters. They do not help with criminal issues but if you have slumlord who never wants to fix property, these are the people you see.

The woman at the front desk was very rude in attitude. I asked for help and she told me I needed an appointment. I said, "Oh ok, can I please make one now?" But she never made me an appointment. She was telling me she couldn't help me, before even looking at or laying a hand on my court documents. After a practically begging her to read them, she did and told me to seek a private attorney. I thought neighborhood legal services was for people who couldn't afford private attorneys. The other guy, who didn't look like me in the waiting area was very happy that he was being help out so much. But it doesn't surprise me in Pittsburgh.

As a State Constable and having knowledge of the Civil process, I found the performance and service of the Neighborhood Legal Services Association was superior and sufficient. We were victorious in court in front of a Commonwealth Judge allowing me to continue to receive childcare for my daughter.

The paperwork can be onerous, and explaining your issue can be frustrating, but the results are worth it. I was provided with an excellent attorney with a great reputation, and empathy. Even if you lose your case as I did, its not for want of great help. If you feel in the dark with no way out of your plight in your legal issue and you have no money, this is the place to go.

Awesomely-Amazing organization. And, if I understand it correctly. A resource that we have a right to. It's a shame that people either don't know about NLSA, or that they are unable to follow through w/them and use their services.
