I recieved a referral to have some documents notarized at the City Attorney office by a City Official and after I accepted the invite I made the appointment. I had to wait for a notary due to the two notaries were both out on lunch and they have only two notaries. I did not mind the wait. After one of the notaries lunch time was over, Cindy Cain, and I may not be writing the correct spelling of the womans name but she offered to notarize my documents. I expected her to "notarize" and not "revise" my documents. She started to cross out the he, when she saw "he/she." I told her she cannot revise documents because of gender basis and because it's a legal document to reflect neutrality when it comes to male or female. Specifically her job was to be a notary not a english teacher or a writer of the constitution. She refused to notarize my documents because she said I knew too much about this and for me to go back to where I usually go when I need other things notarized. I'm a miniority, she was caucasian(white). If I said those statements to her or revised her legal documents, I would of been terminated or suspended or given a final warning. I don't know the double standards to why this situation wasn't handled more professionally but it wasn't a difficult task. Moving forward, I had to redo one of the legal documents over that she crossed out the words on which took time and effort to reflect the original. I wouldn't recommend to have anything notarized with Cindy Cain.
