Here's to fighting a slum land lord. So recently I was able to accept a settlement to resolve my interest; however I did it myself after being ask for an additional 2,000 from Chicago Tenants Rights to pursue my interest in court.

They never even followed up with me, I was disappointed.

Used them about four years ago i believe when i encountered a slumlord. They were very professional and assisted me well in my case and actually had it throw out due to the landlord ways. Was very pleased with my services and the way everything was handled.

Not necessarily a scam, but I did feel like my lawyer did purposefully avoid telling me the effectiveness of our plan of action. I had lost $1,500 dollars in repairs at my apartment. The lawyer I hired wrote a demand letter on my behalf. He was responsive and sent everything in a timely manner.

When we were discussing the demand letter, my lawyer said that the amount of money wasn’t really worth going to court over, and he would probably respond to the demand letter. After a month of no response from my landlord, I realized I wasted $250 for a letter that did nothing but attempt to scare my landlord into paying.

The landlord saw through the bluff and never responded to anything. I am now $1,750 out due to the situation. If the lawyer has supported me, I would have liked to take my manipulative landlord to court. I wish I had did further research, and had been better informed by the lawyer before hiring.

I needed representation in a case with my landlord who is also a lawyer. I went in met with Charles in person, told him my case and what it was involving. Charles mentioned that it was case worthy, and he wasn't "worried" that my landlord is a lawyer himself. Well, after writing ONE letter to my landlord, he mentioned, he no longer thinks it's worthy and can't take my case, but to feel free to pay to sue him myself. I paid $300 to have Charles write a letter. Charles didn't keep his appointment for a phone appointment we had, and finally reached back out 3 weeks later nudges to get him to reply. My neighbor also try to use Charles for representation and he didn't call them when they had a phone appointment. Save your $300, do the research and write a letter yourself. I feel as though maybe they need more help there to be better able to listen and make more thorough decisive judgements to say no to a case, people come to them vulnerable, and want to pay for representation. Super disappointing, and misleading, I didn't need to pay $300, for a letter.

Charles and Courtney were so helpful. I honestly can’t believe this firm has such bad reviews- they were nothing but delightful and responsive. Most of the people I met going in and out of their offices were not very wealthy or affluent. Knowing someone is available to fight for the little people is empowering. We matter and we deserve good legal representation as well. It does help to be fully prepared for your case and have an idea of a realistic outcome. Waiting until the last minute in these situations isn’t a good idea either. Also, no attorney is going to respond to someone constantly berating them via email or phone. They updated me whenever they needed to and kept everything very transparent. I really appreciate their honest and open representation. As legal aides and not magicians who can spontaneously make all of your problems go away, they did everything they could in my case and saved me so much time/stress. We were w/o running water for over a week and the building was flooded. They assured us of a good outcome and I couldn’t even get an email back. Only excuses of being on vacation and “not seeing” the requested info they asked for that was sent weeks ago! It's also laughable that they told us to "call" to help settle things, but theres no way to really get in contact with them via phone. Seems on par with their business practices! They have our numbers, if they cared, they would have contacted us. I hope this deters anyone from using their services! I see a lot of similar reviews all over the internet. I wish I would have scrolled passed the obviously fake reviews before I handed these people any money!

This is the worst experience with an attorney that I've ever had. I was without running water during the coldest days (8) of the year. After no response from my landlord, I turned to Chicago Tenants Rights. Charles assured me that something could be done. It is now almost a year later and absolutely nothing has been done. This whole ordeal has been very disheartening.

Read the reviews before handing him any of your hard earned money!! The majority of his good reviews are several years old and when you read them, they're primarily friends of his (scroll down and see for yourself). He currently "represents" me in an illegal eviction case and my experience has been nothing but frustrating. He NEVER answers calls or emails, he's blown off every meeting he set up, he's keeping my court documents from me, HE WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LEAVE YOU TO REPRESENT YOURSELF WITHOUT EVER TALKING TO YOU! If you feel like spending hundreds of dollars to be abandoned by your "attorney" in the middle of an already difficult situation, he's your guy! I can only imagine that he's still in business because too many people neglect to take the steps to complain to the Chicago Bar Association or the Illinois Registration and Disciplinary Commission...I won't make that same mistake.

Very unprofessional office. Stay away. The receptionist was so slow. He misspelled my name and took forever to type up my profile. He then passed me on to a paralegal who was worse. She was so sloppy and unprofessional. She walked around barefoot in her office which was so dirty and smelled. When I was talking about my case, she interrupted me and was rude. She talked down to me like I was stupid. So disappointed. This office should be closed for bad service.

It is a shame that Courtney took my money and never did anything on my case at all! I am a single mother of two and if it want enough for your services you could of said no. I came across this company in a very desperate time of need. My situation with my landlord and apartment had turned out to be the worse situation I have ever been in. I was not sure what direction to go or how to proceed with the unlawful practices that I have dealt with while living in this property. All I knew was I did not want the landlord and property manager to continue to take advantage of me in their property. I sat down and let the guys in this office listen to my situation and knew before I walked out the door that I would be taken care of. It the matter of 3 days or less the demand letter was sent out to my landlord. They did absolutely nothing but took my money and wasted over a year of my time,He talks to you like your a piece of **** and down talks you a lot(you dont want to defend yourself because he has your case in his hands) they wrote a "demand letter" for $300, which is a template online free,they also falsified my documents (had me suing and not the firm,which I learned today) so after 95 emails, multiple visits and no valid responses, I told Charles about 2 weeks ago I wanted to change attorneys and wouldn't you know I received a email within 5min saying "you can come get you papers" or "I can mail".. I never received a response that fast. So I asked FOR A REFUND and was told no, I felt I was ripped off so I GOOGLED and found the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission *(ARDC)* AND Chicago Bar Association *(CBA)* Once I told him I was going to *file a Complaint *
He then wrote me a letter(its below) stated how sorry he is and I can get a refund. So I went today to pick up my paperwork and checks(Charles isn't there as usually) and the Healthy Receptionist GAVE ME 1 CHECK FOR MY RETAINER AND I SIGNED A AGREEMENT SAYING HE NO LONGER REPRESENTS ME.."COOL" WHEN I ASKED FOR MY PROCESSOR FEE CHECK (SHE HAD IN HAND), I WAS TOLD I HAD TO TAKE DOWN MY ONLINE REVIEWS IN FRONT OF HER FIRST , IS THIS EVEN LEGAL.. There should be a special place in hell for bottom dwelling pond scum lawyers and firms like this one that represent deadbeat tenants at the expense of honest law abiding landlords, mainly Ma and Pa variety, who refuse to pay their rent, refuse to move and make a mockery of the Landlord Tenant Ordinance by putting forth frivolous delaying actions...the law should require the rent these deadbeats are not paying be put into an escrow so that they cannot be allowed get away scott free for not paying....I submit reports to the Illinois ARDC every time I deal with firms/attorney's like this just to make them have to spend some of MY rent money my deadbeats pay them instead of paying their rent to defend themselves during the investigation.

The work provided was absolutely shameful. One of the worst hires of my life. It was difficult getting the lawyer to even show up in court on time, much less know what was going on. I have a strong ARDC complaint in the works. Save your hard-earned money and look elsewhere.

On July 14, 2017, I hired Chicago Tenants Rights Law. My attorney never even showed up in court and we were left overcharged with a $2,200 credit card bill. I should have taken heed to the online reviews I saw posted back then. Which by the way were mysteriously removed by Google recently. I guess they've found a way to pay Google to take down reviews by clients they've been scamming. So sad. Don't they realize the negative reviews will NEVER end.

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. This company is great and the people working there are amazing. I disagree with the reviews saying otherwise.

I'd recommend Charles and his team to any and everyone! I had the landlord and leasing agent from hell! Because the landlord was out of the country he had an agent act on his behalf and she felt she could violate my rights because there would be no consequence. The landlord felt he could duck and dodge issues because he doesn't live in America and me as a piddly little tenant couldn't come after him. Well both their asses learned today! Charles was a champion for my rights as a tenant and he put up with me trying to be a passenger seat attorney too, bless his heart lol!

I came into his office to complain about the leasing agent scheduling showings to my unit with 0 notice and then she'd tell the landlord I didn't allow her in and they'd threatened me with their attorney. I complied with a few random showings before I realized that what she was doing was against the law. I also asked for originally agreed upon repairs between me and the landlord to be completed and the leasing agent would intervene and the repairs would get shoddily done requiring re-repair or the repairs wouldn't get done at all. After my all-over-the-place vent session, Charles asked to see my lease.

He saw red flags right away and got straight to the business of my security deposit which was not properly handled and we went from there. Given the complexity of my situation and all the variables of my unit being sold to a new landlord, me signing a new lease with that landlord, the old landlord needing to give me back my security deposit plus damages but making it difficult for us...it was frustrating as all hell but the outcome was in our favor in the end.

With the help of Charles and his extreme patience with this sketchy landlord we were able to recoup my losses and help me have a clean slate with my new landlord. I appreciate his communication and responsiveness given that he's a family-run business with a lot of clients. I also appreciate him doing everything from constantly communicating to my landlord's attorney, the new landlord's attorney, and the financial title company who owed us money etc etc.

Their e-mail only policy keeps things clean and simple, and they even take calls if you are in a huge bind. Christy gave me her personal cell phone number to dial in emergencies and I've heard her give it out to other clients.
