Peter was assigned as guardian ad litem for my child’s custody case. I took her Mother to court as she was trying to move my daughter 2.5 hours away and two states away to ruin my daughters relationship with me. I provided many facts and examples of past attempts of this nature. Common friends who she threatened if they were to talk to me, spoke with Peter and described her attempts of this. Including the mother’s.

I was able to keep my child in the same school system for stability as she had just settled in the previous year and was thriving. Peter ignored anything that came from my side and simply choose the outcome based on sex. And claimed that Mother’s are more important than fathers. Which is sexist and untrue. All childhood psychology research recommends consistency as the primary factor rather than gender. My daughters psychologist even wrote a report recommending she stay here to have a healthy amount of time with me. Peter ignored it. I work with families and their babies in RI for a living as an early intervention therapist for insight into my knowledge of childhood development.

Peter unfortunately uses a 1950’s belief in his approach. He showed zero care for the case and just chose what would perhaps look safest on paper. He’s of very low character and just does what he’s done for years regardless of the facts and regardless of recommendations from true childhood develop professionals. My child is sad to be leaving and she will struggle with her anger filled mother who remains out for revenge for me requesting a divorce. He has caused a negative scenario for my child that will have a lasting impact on her life. If you want a low character attorney, then he’s your guy. If you are looking for someone who cares about your child’s well being and healthy development, I’d recommend you look elsewhere. Rhode Island family court is a disaster and needs to update their practices and get some new training on healthy childhood development.

I met Peter on a consult to help my son.

During the consult, Peter told me the courts favors the mother. He asked for $225.00 per hour. He asked for a retainer of $7500 to bring my case to trail in a custody case. I met with Peter the next time in court. My son's mother did not show up to the hearing. I never took the stand nor did Peter ever make any remarks in public on my case. Our case got called just before a recess was called for lunch. Peter Sangiovanni went in the back room to talk to Justice Debra E. DiSegna. He came out of the room a few minutes later. He said we were in the game. He told me to go back to work. That was the last time I ever saw Peter Sangiovanni in person.

I telephone called Peter on the case and he said he was working on it.

The history: My son was conceived out of wedlock. I could not be with my sons mother because I caught her sleeping with another man.

I had my son every weekend and on every Wednesday. We spent a lot of time together. My sons mother had possession. She collected child support.

I took possession of my son due to his elementary school refusing to send him home with his mother. My son was beaten up by his mother. He had bruises on his arms and his back.

The court order psychiatric help for my sons mother and my son felt she would be okay. He was a latchkey kid from the time he was 8 years old. He had freedom. Too much freedom. My son wanted to stay with his friends in elementary school.

I have two other children with my wife of now 15 years. My wife is a stay at home mom and both our children are honor students.

I called Peter to ask for the remaining retainer be refunded because he spent little time on my case. His office was flooded in the storm when the Warwick Mall was also flooded. He said he did not have proof of payment. I did not have proof of payment at that time either. I told him I would get the proof and get back to him.

I researched the proof of payment and finally uncovered that Peter had charged $7500 on my Business American Express Card. I gave him the proof of payment.

He changed his thoughts when I provided him with the proof of payment. He stated that the money was all used up.

I contacted a friend in the court system.

She pulled all my document. Most of my court documents were completed by Dan Flaherty, Esq. Dan is the lawyer who managed my initial custody case. He went to court with me many times and actually spoke on record. I met with him often. He understood the case. I paid Dan $2,800 dollars for all the services rendered. Dan did 10 times more work that Peter did.

I hired Peter from the recommendation of a volleyball friend and Lawyer Paul Gould. Paul works in the court system and understood my case. He said I needed a better child custody lawyer.

Peter has very few court documents on my case.

Peter should have had backup proof of payment. He used any excuse not to pay back the retainer. Peter is a crook. Do not trust him. The numbers do not add up and once her took the retainer he never wanted to give it back. He is not an honest lawyer. He worked a maximum of three hours on my case. The documents he sent in to the court are generic Thompson CD type canned documents.

My son is now high school drop out. His mother thru him out of the house as soon as he turned 18 and she did not get any more child support. My son now lives with me. He has his GED. We are trying to get his life back in order. He is a good kid with the same anger management issues his mother has.

Find a lawyer that cares about people. Peter Sangiovanni is not that person. Peter Sangiovanni is a poor child custody lawyer with poor follow up skills. He is in the game to steal your money.
