This firm has helped me tremendously. I was originally working with Keith Koonman in the beginning. Keith represented me in court phenomenally and offered great advise throughout my first court date, and after the court date.

My second experience with the firm was fantastic as well. My ex-wife taped a motion to appear in court on my door (2) days before the court hearing. I just knew that I would not have time to get the proper representation within that amount of time. I immediately picked up the phone to call Keith. He returned my phone call within 3 hours, and even though he was booked and could not represent me on that day he told me that his collogue, Sean Tobin could.

I met with Sean less than 24 hours before my court date where he fully allowed me to catch him up on what was going on, and we devised a plan of what would be the best angle to take towards this. Long story short, I have gotten more parenting time, less child support, and the craziness of my ex-wife to SUBSTANTIALLY take a turn for the better. There was never a time in which I doubted Keith, Sean, or anyone in the Shaw Law Group. As long as you keep a level head and allow these men to guide you, you will eventually come out on top!

I'm very happy with the service provided by Sean Tobin in particular. He was very attentive and helpful to my needs. He didn't sell me unneeded services and truely helped me with a horrid case. Its not over so I may update but so far this firm has been great.

Really took care of me during the whole process of my case. Jeff was a great guy, easy to talk with, and kept in touch with me when I needed it. Highly recommended.

All these reviews must be fake. These guys are only there to collect your money. They wait as long as they can do to the bare minimum and charge the highest they can for it. Also they request to withdrawl (keith koonman) as soon as you ask a question they cant answer. Obviously the courts wont let them, but it's still childish. Dont fall for these fake reviews. These guys are not worth your time. The only person there with a heart is an assistant Kimberly knowak, I hope you find a better firm someday, good luck.

Edit: let me add.... I lost everything and have over $500 child support a month for one child. Not one person gave me any useable advice and my attorney didnt even show up to the final hearing. Not to mention when they did respond, they left me with no time every time and responded with either pointless info or nonsense. I EVEN GOT CHARGED FOR ARGUMENT EMAILS BETWEEN MY LAWYOR AND I THAT HE OBVIOUSLY ONLY STARTED SO HE COULD CHARGE ME.

Finally got a copy of the judgement of divorce.... it's not even the one I signed..... these guys seriously just dont kniw what they are doing. How can they be this bad?

May 2nd.
Ivan shaw, my attorneys boss (Keith koonman) just saw this review and isnt happy about. He reached out to me asking why I didnt go to him first. So I told him I did. He told me he has no emails from me so I forwarded the emails I've sent him to prove I did. He than tried to say because I stayed with them after those emails, I must have been ok with everything all of the sudden. Failing to realize in those emails I stated they had all my money and I had no time left before my hearing to find a new attorney and them waiting to the last minute is why. Hes sitting at his desk trying to find a way to fix this review by telling me he didnt know. The emails I sent to him today prove he knew what was going on. I asked him to stop emailing me if he was going to act like they did anything for me.

May 3rd
Got a bench warrent for my arrest for failure to report to a show cause hearing because my attorney Keith, told me it was my only option at the time. Come to find out, if I would have shown up and not listen to him I could have shown cause and still have my licence without a threat of jail time from a bench warrent. I now cant do anything about my arrears without going to jail and I now cant drive because of the stupid advise from my attorney Keith koonman. I understand I should have known better cause of this thing called common sense, but when this advise came from someone that supposedly knows better, why wouldnt I take it? These guys litterally screwed up my entire life. Made it impossible for me to get back on my feet after taking all my money for nothing but a bench warrent in return.

Kirk steele: 67 reviews but only wrote something in 2 of them. Racking up his credibility for specific reviews like this one and finally writes a perfect professional review out of no where.... punctuation, abbreviation explained, and a recommendation. Was told what to say. The Jeff he is referencing got rid of me because he said he didnt have the time I was asking for and said Keith has plenty of time for me. Which is why I was stuck with Keith in the first place.... who apparantly had no time for me.....

It is now sept. 16th 2018 and I have still never recieved legit proof of divorce from shaw law. No signed judgement of divorce or anything saying it's been filed with the court. I email them and get no response now as well. I will be bringing this matter to the board. I suggest not hireing shaw law for anything. Ever.

This is an excellent company that is amazing at serving their clients. I’ve worked with 4 separate attorneys at this company and all of them have been well prepared and did a fantastic job. Samantha VanTol is a great attorney and takes pride in her work and is a extremely hard worker! I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

- Sent 2 messages on Sept. 12th and another on Sept. 17th asking for next steps on my case did not her anything back from Sean T. until Sept. 23rd. Same thing happened on Oct. 23rd looking for any update then again on the 28th and didn't hear back from Sean T. until Nov. 6th but still no actual update just a blank comment. Lack of response from Sean T. resulted in default on my case before I was finally able to find another lawyer. Now for the staff, IF you can get a hold of someone they will likely only direct you to an full mailbox that you cannot actually leave a message on. If you do find a mailbox to leave a message at you will not be contacted back at all. Had some comments for Mr. Shaw (owner) to see if he could help me out with some of the issues I was having but no... he was ALWAYS out of the office (which I can understand) but never returned a phone call after several messages were left. Rate this place 0 out of 5, do yourself a favor and find another lawyer until this place can get back in a groove and actually want to help people.

- Received a call from Ivan Shaw (owner) to address the breakdown in communication between myself and him. He was very open and looking for answers regarding the lack of communication in his firm and sounded like he genuinely was concerned with the situation. Thank you for getting back with me Mr. Shaw.

Samantha was not only great at helping with my case but at reassuring me when things in my case got complicated. In court she showed such a clear understanding of events and those involved that it was almost as if events happened to her. Even afterwords, as new issues have arrived, she has been great at stepping up to help me out again. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Don't waste your money or your time!
Worst experience with Ms. Vantol; she acts like you're bothering her as a paying client, and steals your money for subpar work that's not even complete.

Extremely let down, don't throw your money away with this firm! They don't care about anyone or anything, their customer service is beyond lacking. The receptionist started a conversation with a coworker while I was trying to talk to her!! She continued the conversation too, and asked me to 'hold on' while she finished talking! Absolutely terrible.

Working with Sean Tobin was one of the best experiences that I had ever had with a lawyer. He was prompt in all his responses to me and very detailed and direct in his counsel. Not only did he do all that he said he would do, he truly cared about my case and situation. In court he was well prepared, on time and to the point. Making a solid case in my defense which culminated in a strong win that supported my rights as a father which were being violated. I could not have asked for a better lawyer!

I called Shaw to arrange to meet in Grand Rapids for one hour at $100 for an interview, to evaluate the possibility of having my court ordered parenting time changed.

After arriving early, and then waiting for 20 minutes past the prearranged meeting time, I was told that the lawyer I had arranged to meet with was busy in Holland and wouldn't be able to see me.

While Shaw Law Group did allow me to meet with a different lawyer that had no previous knowledge of the particulars, it wasn't until almost a half hour of my already paid for time was used up; the clock was ticking and the meter was running.

The lawyer I did meet with had his own plans and had to leave 10 minutes before my "hour" was up, netting me about 35 total minutes of speaking to a lawyer about my case.

The second lawyer promised to call me during the next week to follow up, presumably to give me the remainder of my "hour", but never did.

The facts of the court case are irrelevant. The service and corresponding lack of follow up reinforced my suspicion that their level of caring for me was below a reasonable level. I was not offered a refund, nor was I ever asked if I required any additional services.

Based on my experience, I do NOT recommend their services in any capacity.

Great people

Sean Tobin guided me through the process, advised me of any potential issues, and was able to settle my custody case efficiently. He looked out for my best interests. I highly recommend Sean and Shaw Law Group.

They were great only during the intake interview as they were going over all the wonderful things they have done for their past clients. Communication was great; they were very open with everything and what the game plan was going to be. That was about all they were good for. After that meeting the communication stopped and the only time they would actually want to speak to you was the day before a hearing and right before the hearing as they had questions to go over. The promises were empty and for being an ADAM law firm, they fell short on that and cared only about what was best for them. We had a hearing on a Monday morning, after the hearing I was talking with my attorney in the court house parking lot about what to expect next and he would get back to me when he got the paperwork, 2 hours later I received an email that he was leaving the firm and was being given to a different attorney in the firm, how never once reached out to me that entire week. I got one email from her and responded a minute later to receive an automatic reply that she was going to be out of the office for the next 10 days. They are also great at the billing of their hours, we had 4 stipulated orders due to their incompetence and having to file what they missed from one hearing and of course they bill that directly to you, as it wasn’t their fault they forgot and it was their mistake. Then like the other lawyer, you receive an email that they are dropping you as a client, no phone call, no meeting to discuss anything, just a threat letter that if you don’t sign their release they will file paperwork removing themselves as your legal representation . Don’t believe any of the false client statements on their website. As I learned you need a real lawyer willing to fight for you and your best interests, worst mistake was thinking and ADAM law firm would be a huge mistake and a waste of money. And, oh yeah, they will then secretly file against you to put a lien on your property and never send you bills after dropping you, as they know the legal system and will do everything they can against you thinking they know better. Keep searching for an actual lawyer, this Shaw law firm is nothing more than self-absorbed crooks taking advantage of people going through a difficult time with a divorce, you’re better off finding an ambulance chasing lawyer, they will at least fight for you in and out of court. I did better representing myself several times then what happened in the court room with the 2 different lawyers from Shaw Law.

They are the only option in GR! Sam is a pit bull with a great smile!
