I attended a LifePlan workshop recently and the presenter was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I walked away with some great information and know that I can count on the team at their office to help me out.

We attended a Lifeplan workshop and 1 followup visit. The workshop was informative general information. Seemed sort of one size fits all. We went back for a followup which was more specific to our situation. We almost choked when given a price of somewhere between $6,000 and $10,000. This would be for a will, durable POA for financial and healthcare for my husband and myself and to set up a trust. We opted to get a second opinion and we set up an estate plan with a different firm for under $2,000. I'm sure that they will set up a good plan, they seemed knowledgeable and friendly, but prices are outrageous....warm cookies aren't worth the high price.

My father went through Carrier when my mother turned ill and diagnosed as terminal in 2013 and paid 5000+ at that time. He passed 2/18/17. There are 5 children, all successor trustees of my father's trust with my brother first in line to administrate the trust. Carrier advised my brother to change a Harley Davidson and New 2016 Pick-up Truck my father never added to the trust into his name so he could sell them, after my father's death, rather than putting these into the trust. Other legal advisers had said you only put assets into a beneficiary's name if there is a "gift letter" stating it goes to that person (since it was after death). Other than this Carrier did not assist with much knowing my brother had little knowledge on what he should be doing. The family didn't even go through the home to divide personal property until more that 8 months after death. 10 months went by and not one asset had been dealt with. My father had vehicles, rental properties, his property, Florida property and other large assets so there was a lot that needed to be done. This resulted in removing my brother as trustee and appointing the next successor trustee in line. We contacted Carrier to let them know our intentions but then they told my brother 5 weeks later they had no idea. I personally made contact with Georgia 9/21/17 to tell her we were going to remove my brother as trustee and she told me not to do anything until we hear back from Donna. Donna was on vacation and would return 9/25/17 and would call us. No one from Carrier ever call us to discuss this any further. We gave them 5 weeks and ended up consulting with another firm for guidance. WE felt Carrier gave us no choice. We received very little from Carrier and requested a partial refund of the fee we paid. They never responded. During the 10 months dealing with them we would receive different answers on questions we had, depending on who you would get to answer the phone or an email. We are now just over a year from my fathers death in February 2017 and we have just started dividing assets. I don't blame my brother as he had no idea what to do but Carrier did nothing but caused family turmoil given actions we needed to take to get business taken care of. Like other reviewers had said, it's about closure. I would not recommend them and they surely don't care as they never responded to our last 3 emails or 2 certified mailings. Georgia, Donna and David were all personally contacted at the end and it's like they don't care. They got their money up front so why bother doing any work since we have the money already?

UPDATE 4/2018 -FUNNY RESPONSE, AS MY FAMILY MET WITH YOU AND I HAVE ALL THE ATTORNEY PAPER WORK IN MY LAP FROM YOUR OFFICE. I ALSO HAVE THE EMAILS FROM YOU DIRECTING MY BROTHER TO PUT ASSETS IN HIS NAME PERSONALLY RATHER THAN THE TRUST. ME PERSONALLY, NO YOU DID NOT REPRESENT ME YOU REPRESENTED THE 5 SUCCESSOR TRUSTEES TO INCLUDE ME. MY FATHER HAD HIS TRUST WITH YOU AND US FIVE SIBLINGS WERE SUCCESSOR TRUSTEES AFTER HIS DEATH. WE HIRED YOU PER PHONE CONFERENCE WITH DONNA IN MARCH 2017 UNTIL WE REMOVED YOU TO HIRE ANOTHER ATTORNEY.

This guy conned my brother-in-law's parents while writing their will. He put HIMSELF as a beneficiary.

The staff at the law offices of David L. Carrier, P. C. are so helpful, and accommodating to their clients needs. They offer free Lifeplan workshops, in addition to workshops in many other areas of elder care. They are actively involved in many senior community events sharing their knowledge and expertise in which DLC’s staff are clearly passionate about. Don’t procrastinate - be proactive with this phase of life! You will wonder why you waited so long!

If you want something done and done right with out the headache then let Carrier Law do it.
When we went there and talked to Jim Henke at Carrier Law our burdens were lifted,.
We were having so much trouble with our siblings over my Moms move to Michigan and all My Moms monies were being depleted my wife and I knew we had to do something.
What a relief we found the right attorney to take care of our situation.
The stress was lifted.
We got our Mom moved to Michigan and me and My wife are now Power of attorneys in her behalf and she can live the rest of her life and be happy.
Thanks Jim and Carrier Law.

I called and asked for some help tracking down a will. Elyse told me she would "call the next day" . 6 days later, no call ever received . It is unfortunate they take information from a potential client and then do not have the professional courtesy of returning a phone call - even if to tell you they are not interested in your case.

David Carrier and associates took the time to make sure everything was clear in our estate planning and answered all questions that we had. We were very pleased with our decision to work with them.

I attended a workshop at the Carrier law firm on trusts. I learned how Medicaid "looks back" at my assets for 5 years to determine my eligibility. I never knew that a trust would protect those assets in order to make me eligible for Medicaid should I need it. I always thought that trusts are for rich people; now I know that it is for almost everybody, especially us middle class folks.

The added benefit of the trust that Carrier set up for me is that it includes both a medical power-of-attorney and a financial power-of-attorney that outlines MY wishes should I become incapacitated and unable to make those decisions for myself.

The staff at Carrier are unfailingly polite and helpful and have always responded to telephone call and questions. Although the cost of setting up a trust is more than I can comfortably afford, the peace of mind I now have makes it worthwhile. (Plus, the 10-month payment plan for part of the costs helps!)

Don't take my word for all of the benefits. Sign-up for one of the workshops on trusts and learn for yourself!

A very bad experience! BUYER BEWARE!! David Carrier's office "consulted" with my mother and stepfather August 2016 and had them revise an existing trust. My mother was terminally ill at the time and passed in December 2016. Her one wish upon her death was that her remaining IRA from a lifetime of working would pass to her two children. Carrier "advised" her to change the IRA for benefit of the new trust rather than for benefit of the children as desired. What would have required a simple signature is now caught up in a legal mess with the investment company that is managing the IRA. Months later, we have yet to find out whether or not the IRA will pass as intended. For anyone who has lost someone, the last thing you want to deal with when you are grieving is this! It's definitely not about the money but our desire for closure. When Carrier was asked why this was changed, he blamed it on my mother (my stepfather recalls it differently). We are so frustrated and my mother would have been so disappointed. I hope my post can save others from dealing with this painful experience.
In closing, my advice would be; if you intend to use Carrier, I would get an attorney to review their work. Update: It's been 3 months and we are still no closer to a resolution (nor getting proper assistance from this attorney). And rest assured, I am not an employee of the office like some of the positive ratings posted. What a joke.

When the Law Offices of David Carrier came to the Kalamazoo community, the staff embraced us as a long lost relative. Attorney Pat Carrier and his team were eager to engage, connect and start building relationships; they participated in and supported civic and nonprofit organizations and events and have been willing and eager to pay it forward. Integrity, honor and the desire to share their collective knowledge is a founding principle, whether or not one is a client. It is a pleasure to commend them as a neighbor and friend.

My wife and I have been a client of David Carrier's office for over 5 years. We had trust work prepared by another attorney before, but it did not provide the protection that we wanted and needed. We are very pleased with the professional service that we received and highly recommend David and his firm for the work that they do. They take the time to answer our questions and provide an outstanding service. Their staff is fantastic.

Mr. Carrier and his staff are professional and know what they are doing. After spending several days observing the enire process of how his team works, I can only say he has a wonderful staff and is highly efficient at meeting and exceeding his clients needs. They gently guide you through the process of understanding the difference between estate planning and "protecting your stuff". His team makes protecting your stuff from a nursing home while not loosing control Easy, As a fellow elder law attorney myself, I can appreciate all he does for his clients. Mr. Carrier makes a very complicated and difficult process as easy as making the decision to turn on the AC in your car. If you're looking for a first class operation to take care of you and your family, I would highly recommend that your visit and learn what is involved. From the first meeting, he will make and keep his promise to you.

I don't doubt that Carrier knows his stuff but what I don't like is his tactics and how he conduct business. I live in Grand Rapids, but my mother lives in Charlotte, Mi. Trying to push my 72 year old mother to the realization that see needs to "take care of business", I scheduled myself and my mom to one of Carrier's work shops. I will say we both learned a lot about wills and "protecting your stuff". My big problem with his outfit is he focuses on production. Getting people signed up and pushing forward.
With respect to our story, my mom setup an appointment to start the process. She felt rushed and didn't have answers to all the questions, It seemed to her that it was more important to "sign on the dotted line" and pay 6k, yes $6,000.00 to protect "her stuff".
Now for my end: I was getting countless phone calls from their office asking for my mom. When I got the first one I politely, but to the point, said that they need to fix their office side because I was her son. How do you take $6,000.00 from someone and don't have their contact information? The second phone call I got nasty with them and refused to give my mom's number to them. I said "earn your money and figure it out". On the third call I was furious and asked to speak with the office manager. I got the run-a-round saying she was busy and I left a message with her to call me immediately about the poor performance from her department. She never called back. After 4 days I called my mother and apologized profusely and recommended her to fire Carrier. Because she felt rushed by them she did so that day. I cant tell you how frustrated I am. I spent months grilling my mother to take care of her affairs. We felt like we were dealing with a pyramid scheme. Push push push... Pay pay pay... move on.
Sadly I must say shame on you!
