Ms Barker and her legal assistant Amy have been so helpful and kind. Glad I called her for the matter I'm dealing with. Straightforward, to the point and very helpful. Hopefully she can get my issue taken care of. Thank you to both of them for all their help and answers.

since paying for her representation, i have had no contact in any form with her. its been over 2 months. i understand the busy schedules of attorneys may have however this is pushing it. you may get ahold of the secretary but when she states they will call you back, dont hold your breath. go somewhere else if you actually want results

Gave her thousands for her to do nothing for 2 years. She should be disbarred. She has no Sensitivity towards family court matters,Does not fight for you or make you feel she’s on your side.Never works and never communicates or calls back. Always forgot my name and forgot my case and mixed me up with other people!!I thought I was the only one until I’m reading all the reviews.Hopefully I can spare someone who had just as much as Hope as I did when I gave her $1500 as a retainer and thought that I could be confident with this custody case. She was quick to take the money but did nothing on her side. Don’t waste your time money or emotions on this “lawyer”.

Please I implore anyone looking for an ethical attorney to search elsewhere. Attorney Barker should be disbarred by the NYS bar association. She is not only unethical, abrasive, fights harder for the opposition than the person who retained her, but also very nasty to her clients. My experience was deplorable at best. She was rude, yelled at me and was constantly verbally abusive. Due to on going threats and dishonest and duplicitous suggestions, I eventually brought in family member's to witness how often she lied about small things. She worked so tirelessly for the other side I am still convinced she was paid by my ex-husband. I retained her to amend a separation agreement and use it as the basis for an uncontested divorce. She fought against me harder than she did the opposition. She refused to mention the abuse my daughter and I had suffered at my ex-husband's hands. She submitted forms that I did not agree to and threatened I'd loose my daughter. She refused to discuss my daughter's safety or take the fact that our lives were being threatened seriously. I fired her under the impression that she had a prejudice or bias against minorities only to learn from another attorney that she hasn't been the same since she was diagnosed with cancer. I feel as though she should retire because she is harming families who are already going through very difficult times. Her cold demeanor, verbal abuse and propensity to ignore clients are at the least of your worries. Unfortunately because Barker stands as the gatekeeper to many families getting their lives repaired I recommend that to salvage the bit of life you do have, look for more reputable council.

I am seeking permanent disability due to Betsy Barker dragging her feet to secure a restraining order. I have been under the care of multiple MD professionals that claim my disability and disease is from abuse sustained from Betsy not protecting me. I was also told from a medical counselor at mental health that people can be paralyzed from trauma. My children waited 10 months for child support. With two police reports from State Police, and County Police for break ins. I was told from 4 medical officials that Betsy was cruel, inhuman and used unethical treatment. And Vera House questioned if my ex paid her off! My understanding is that most women like me, kill themselves because the pain is unbearable and will never go away! As a masters degree holder and PhD hopeful, I am now going through the permanent disability process! The state and federal government have received documentation of the lack of Ms Barkers ethical side!!!! I am now seeking resolve from a neurologist.... extreme stress can cause stroke, and ptsd can rewire the brain and cause a brain injury, and MS can cause brain lesions! Yes, Ms Baker is deemed an abuser by all the medical professions that I have seen! So far I was told that I can’t have restraining order because it’s joint custody, give up custody of my kids and move out of state, and now currently working with a forensic counselor.... and it appears permanent disability in my situation will be inevitable! I don’t think Betsy had the right tools to deal with situation that forensics experts now have to clean up! A nationally accredited psy D, hospital team, disease specialist, and now a neurologist! I would be greatful for a diagnosis of MS over abuse that sustained brain injury or stroke! I was born and raised in this area and worked at Syracuse City Schools, and abused by a team of lawyers and my ex husband! I only hope it’s disease... to be disable from abuse is almost too much to process! I’m not exactly sure who’s heart aches more at the doctors offices... mine or the medical professionals! I wouldn’t recommend her on account she thinks food falls from the sky! Fearful it was my dark skin that made her so cruel to me! Nonetheless, I wrote a letter to the judge last year to give him the WIC documentation for my 3 year old son... from a man that made 140,000.00 and year and money from his dead mother, he was unable to feed the baby of his family! When a forensic teams sees a man that drain the family bank account 2 months after his mother’s death, takes about the maximum amount in loans, leaves to file for custody and leaves me whirling in the wind in fright, not one lawyer questions his inability to feed his children. But would questioned everything I did. In the mental health world, that’s significant cause for concern! I’m not afraid to share my story! I’m afraid these lawyers will get away will fraud, malicious intent to cause harm, and financial distress to either a diseased women or crippled a women! I’m thankful for the medical professionals to value the lives of their patients! Because the lawyers don’t! Not bitter, and not revengeful, profoundly sad.... a community member that raised scholarships for children, raised money at local churches, and OPWDD board mentee, is unbearably damaged because my voice never once counted!!!!

I walked in to Betsy's office as a newly single mother of two young toddlers. We had a nice meeting and I went over my concerns with her and what it was I was looking to accomplish. She made me feel as though it would be a simple, quick process. I handed over my $850 to her and left feeling relieved that I had taken control of my situation and made a positive step in my life as well as my children. Well, I was wrong. This was February 2019, fast forward to the present and I am out over $500 with absolutely ZERO results. Nothing was done, I was robbed $550. I received one email with a "DRAFT" of what was just copy and pasted from google, I could have done the same. She wanted me to do the things I had hired her to do! We did had one brief phone conversation, 7 minutes maybe and of course I received the bill for that. I left countless emails and voicemails for both her and her assistant Amy. I am a very reasonable person and understand that I was not her only client and she does have a personal life. However, over 6 months with zero results does not seem reasonable. This has definitely been a lesson learned for me. In writing this, I hope to save someone else the time and money I wasted by putting my trust in a reputable(or so I thought) attorney. If you are looking to be taken advantage of and robbed, then Betsy is the one for you.

I PLAN TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF JOB. SHAME ON YOU BETSY. AND YOU SHOULD KNOW SHE DOES NOT CALL YOU BACK, YOU LEAVE CONTINUOUS MESSAGES WITH HER SECRETARY AND GET NOTHING. IM SURE IVE FILLED HER VOICE MAIL BOX SORRY YOU WONT BE ABLE TO LEAVE HER A MESSAGE. PATHETIC.

An awful but eye waking experience! Besty" came highly recommended, but she did not show or have any of the qualities that was stated. Besty" lack professionalism and communication skills to her client. " One star check but honestly she didn't deserve that! Hopefully she will revisit what pushed her to work in family court and regain that passion to do what right..

She knew my daughters are everything to me. The more trust I put into her the more I could see she truly cares about her clients and fights for what is important to them, she is incredibly prepared for court and always kept me informed. I hired Elisabeth Barker and she was highly professional and extremely knowledgeable in her field. I gave her all documentation and she handled everything. She took charge in court, which allowed me to focus on my health. My family and I were very thankful for her help and dedication. I highly recommend her.

We had the same experience as other reviewers. We paid thousands of dollars up front then had to take time off from work to chase her down at her office to get her attention. (Usually off on vacation). Few if any return calls. No attention to details and sloppy record keeping. When we did get her to a meeting she repeatedly asked for (and billed) information that had already been given to her. She was good friends with the opposing counsel and the only activity our case got was when he would tell her what to do. Not saying this because we didn't get the results we wanted. Saying that we never felt she cared, did the work, or was knowledgeable. We looked into filling a complaint with the bar and would have if she hadn't taken all our money. She gave the same story up front as on her web site about caring, personal attention and experience - don't listen.

My wife and I hired Ms. Barker to handle a child custody case. We live in another state. We paid Ms. Barker a $1500 retainer and for the first part of our case she did a fine job. Our bills from her office have always been paid timely. However, there has been a glitch with our child support payments and we cannot get Ms. Barker's to return any calls to us. We have even gone so far as to file our own paperwork to have the case return to court. We know that she is still seen regularly in the child support court. But she WILL NOT return our calls and now we must find another attorney and start this process again. Please hire her with caution!
