I was in a heaping mess as a result of several dishonest auto dealers who attempted to defraud me and steal my vehicle- literally. We were referred to Hanson & Walgenkim by two other Oregon law firms. We are more than pleased with the referral. Within 3 months of first contacting Hansen & Walgenkim, our case has settled to our full satisfaction. All of our monies lost in the bad car deal returned, including those we spent on mechanical repairs to the car for breakdowns that occured within 2 days of purchasing it from the swindling lot.

They helped us at lightening speed, with their responsiveness, concern for our situation and skill. They helped us - despite a "Warranty. The story... We had purchased a 2002 Mini Cooper from a used car lot in Portland. The transmission blew within a few weeks - the dealer knew it was going to fail. FYI the CVT transmissions in Mini Coopers between 2002 - 2006 are actually defective and BMW North America, sued in a big class-action, is offering to replace them under certain conditions (look it up).

The dealer knew our transmission would fail but did not disclose it. He unloaded the car on us when he became aware that it's breakdown was imminent. The Mini also had other problems (cooling assembly, within a few days of buying it, we spent $1k to replace the fan assembly). The car failed, and we were stuck, forced to buy another car. To complicate things, we were out of state when it broke down, and we were stranded.

We asked the dealer several times to refund our money on the purchase and to also reimburse the repairs they knew would be needed. The dealer, frustratingly, offered to charge us "only" $50 per hour to have their lot mechanic repair the transmission - a "refurbished" transmission. But to fix it the right way, with an actual new transmission, would have cost $8,750. We couldn't afford either solution.

Long story short: Without even having to go to court, Hansen & Walgenkim tactfully forced the dealer to give us our money back, and to pay for the fan assembly repairs, and to pay for their own towing from out of state.

It is reassuring to know that Oregon consumers do have some protection, you don't have to settle for being swindled, and if you are ever scammed by consumer fraud - especially one that involves a used car dealer - contact the Hanson & Walgenkin firm in Salem.
