There comes a certain age when in the back of your mind you know it’s time to address Elder Care planning. For each of us it is different and addressing the issue and determining our individual needs is sensitive and very personal.
I went to a few seminars given by various legal firms on elder law. I was impressed with Ettinger Law Firm and liked that they did not charge for a consultation. I sat on the decision for a long time, but knew I had to make a decision.
I reached out to Danielle Becker at Ettinger Law Firm and set up an appointment for a consultation. I brought my son with me and we went over my assets, family dynamics and Danielle explained to us the best way to protect my assets within the framework of my wishes. She explained the process and the cost. I told her to give me time to consider my options and she said “take your time”. There was no pressure.
I emailed her with questions and she responded promptly. I called her a few times and she returned my calls. I was impressed. I knew I went to the right Law firm.
We met again, this time with my daughter-in-law and together we set up my Trust, discussed Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxy. Over the next few weeks I emailed her changes and she politely made all the changes. Danielle has patience!
I made an appointment to finalized and sign all the paperwork. My son and daughter-in-law went with me and Danielle’s assistant who was also an attorney went over all the required documents line by line with us. Anything we didn’t understand, she explained.
I signed, I paid and I felt a great sense of relief knowing that I had taken this responsibility out of the hands of my children and that my wishes would be followed.
