Complete shake down if there is any chance you might not follow through. I suggest you just save the money on your own and call when you have it. The payment plan is set up to where if you cancel it they pretty much take every thing you gave them. I gave them 440 and when i cancelled, they refunded me 21 dollars. Really scam like keep your money until you can just pay for a lawyer. If you call to check on the status of you case you are charged for it. If you call to reschedule a payment you are charged for it if you call because you missed a call from them you are charged for it. Somewhere around 21 dollars per min. Update 02/20/2020 it has been 3 months and I still have not received my refund. My 21 dollars out of 440 I gave them for nothing.

Upright law is a joke. Had a general question and was pressured into putting some sort of payment down. After reading the reviews, I quickly learned they are quick to your money but will not send it back. I’ve been waiting 3 months for a return. Would not recommend this place to anyone. If I could give less than one star I would. Signed up with them back in January of last year. Took weeks to hear from the lawyer almost nearly a month and a half. After hearing from the lawyer found out that I made too much during that time to file for bankruptcy. Start of the process to request a refund and lost service. Every time I contacted them afterwards the calls with mysteriously drop until I finally was able to file for my refund in October. Was told it would only take 45 days for the refund to be processed. I called in after 45 days and they changed it to 45 business days. My 45th business day was December 20 and I still have no sign of a refund and keep getting told the same things over and over again. They constantly hang up on me and refused to give any consultation as to why they cannot truthfully release the refund. Told him I was contacting the Better Business Bureau and they said that that was my prerogative. Upon checking the Better Business Bureau’s website they have an F rating with multiple customer complaints as well as several additional lawsuits pending. I recommend not doing business with this company for any reason whatsoever.

Sadly still waiting for my refund initially they said refund no problem if cancelled within time period - I did. then when I called i was told 30 - 45 days - I waited then I called again and was told 30-45 BUSINESS days-- well we are there, Now they only do BATCHES on Fridays- well that will be past the 30-45 days and then they MAIL the refund??? Do Not Use! If you want a refund you will be charged a huge fee. Then they will tell you it takes 30-45 days. Then that will turn into 30-45 business days. It is almost impossible to get. This place is a total scam!

Misleading company...they told me I qualified for chapter 13 and after I paid them $1800 their attorney said I did not qualify. They still have not issued a refund and it has been over 90 days. Do not give them your money!!

I called on November 1, 2019 to cancel my account after paying in full. I was told the refund would take 30 days. After 30 days passed, I called and was told it takes 30-45 days. After 45 days I called and was told the check would be going out in 5 days. I called back today...a week later and was told they are still working on October refunds so my check has not been sent. I asked to speak to a manager and as per my thoughts before I asked, he was on another call. I am disgusted that they are already keeping such a large portion of the money I paid for their so called work done behind the scenes, I am even more disgusted that they are not making good on their own refund policy. People save your money and go to a reputable law firm. These people don't know how to be truthful.

I paid the payment plan and have been fully paid for a year now and completed the credit counseling and called to report the time lapse they said they would be in contact with me and it’s another two months with no answers. I can’t even get them to answer when my phone number calls. I would just like a refund at this point I have no more desire to build a networking branch with this company.

Process my $100 deposit for starting my case, AFTER asking about cancellation and refund policy. After being assured by the agent I could cancel and get refund anytime, I agreed to the deposit. I spoke to my assigned attorney, who also reassured me I could still cancel and get refund, she was informative and helpful. I then read the reviews and decided to cancel one week after the $100 and I did NOT SIGN SNYTHING! The agent told me I could not get a refund because of “billable hours charged”. From the beginning they were so sketchy but since I was in a Hole I decided to proceed finish paying almost $2010 and after paying I got my papers in order finished my counseling courses but my case was going no where especially because the assistant which I had no clue you had to speak to handled paperwork and questions but honestly she had no clue what she was doing it was frustrating so I seeked helped elsewhere. On October 24th 2018 ××××× contacted Upright Law to inquire about filing chapter 7 bankruptcy. Upright Law is a law firm that advertises to help people file bankruptcy. He was given the cost of their services. ×××××× couldn't afford to pay their costs up front so they set up a payment plan, he paid them $300 up front and they deducted $100 a paycheck for 17 paychecks. When ×××××× finished paying them he decided bankruptcy was not in his best interest so he contacted Upright Law on August 12th 2019, to let them know he had changed his mind.

The person he spoke with told him that they would issue him a refund but not for the entire amount. The refund they offered him was in the amount of $1,358.50 they informed him that the other part they where keeping for services rendered. ×××××× agreed to these terms and they told Robert he would receive his refund in 40 to 60 days. The 8th of November marked 60 business days and ×××××× did not receive a refund check. He tried contacting Upright Law to inquire about his refund and after several day's of being hung up on they finally called him back. The representative he spoke to told him that because of high business his refund has been back logged and they are still working on it. It is now the 3rd of December and they have blocked his phone number.

I have done research on this company and it seems as though this is a common practice for them. They have been steeling money from vulnerable people for quite some time now and it doesn't seem to have raised a red flag with the Better Business Bureau. There are many reviews online from people who have and are experiencing the same treatment from Upright Law.

We need your help to expose this company and warn other people across the country.

My boyfriend and I paid these people for a bankruptcy they were doing NO WORK TOWARDS. Once legal action started being taken towards us, we went to a different lawyer in my home town and she told us the “services” upright told me they were working on she had never even heard of before and weren’t even necessary for a bankruptcy. I confronted upright and asked for our money back and told them we no longer wanted their service since they weren’t doing anything for us. Back on June 27, 2019 I received a letter from Upright Law congratulating me on paying my full $1,782 to Upright Law for a bankruptcy and help in doing just that.
I was assigned an attorney like they had promised, and I received a phone call from him when I initially contacted your company. Between June 27th and August 23, I attempted to contact my attorney on at least 3 different occasions and at least once I contacted customer service because I had questions regarding a time sensitive matter.

I was told that Upright Law would send an email to the attorney requesting that he contact me and that would trigger a response from him. I have not once received any phone call from the attorney. Since it was a time sensitive matter, I had to find a local attorney on my own to talk to and hire to help me with filing my bankruptcy.

I cancelled the service that Upright Law never provided on August 23 and since that time I have been waiting for my refund. I was told that it would take 30 to 90 business days to received my full refund. Today, Nov. 12, close of business, and it has been 57 business days and I am still waiting for my FULL REFUND that I was promised.

It is no wonder there are such bad reviews for this company! What do I have to do to get my money refunded? In the meantime, I am growing further in debt and no money to try to help myself. I'm so sorry I ever thought that your company could help me and I am informing anyone I talk with to stay away from your company. You have an extremely poor way of doing business and lie when a paying customer tries to get the help they paid for. I just want to remind your company that "word of mouth" is a very powerful way to advertise your bad business practices.

This pace is a dam joke!! I have to constantly call to try to get someone to tell me anything. I have been getting the run around for 8 months from them . Sighed the same papers 3 times. Worst company ever! Scam. BBB revoked, read the reviews! I put $100 down during my initial talk with them, something seemed fishy... google reviews says 4 stars, then I looked up BBB, revoked! Did more research and found out the company is in shambles and is holding any money you give them for 30-45 days. I requested a refund of my $100 on Sept. 19th, 35 business days later I still do not have my money.

Absolutely unprofessional and rude.
This company got our information third party from another company that was supposedly be able to help us with financial help for filing bankruptcy. Paul was terribly rude. I told him that my fiancé had been getting constant texts from their company and so he had asked me to call on his behalf. I said that I could conference him in to give authorization that I could talk, and if that wasn’t okay then I needed them to remove him from their texting list. I conferenced my partner in and immediately Paul said to my husband that “I need to talk to whoever is filing because Frankly I’m getting the run around”.
(This was our very first taking to him and had been talking to him for less than 2 minutes) he then said he could do a 20 minute consultation right then with my fiancé, even though I had just told him my partner was at work and could not talk long.
His tone is as blunt, cold, and nasty.
At this point we were just waiting to cut the conversation off because we did not want to continue regardless with the company.

Paul began to explain that filing was 1500-1600 in Ohio and that they would take out bank information to day on file. And we would work something out for paying. He asked if this is something we were interested in now, and my husband said “that’s a lot of money” (because the information we were given online was about financial help with it, even if it was untrue that’s what we’re led to believe).

Paul nastily said “You know bankruptcy isn’t free”

Alright, that’s fine, Paul. But it wasn’t what we were expecting, we didn’t know you were a law firm when your company began spamming us with texts. we need to go back to figure other things out. There are programs that DO help people file. i was not asking your company to do so. we didn’t want to work with your company based on your demeanor alone.

The absolute worst. Let’s start at: they had no actual clue what I needed, and sent me to a terrible lawyer. I paid them ON TIME, but when I requested a refund they charged me almost $800 dollars for “paper” and “filing” fees. Don’t recommend. I spoke to a woman named Sandra, extremely nice, comforting, and quick to give advice and answers. She Told me until I finished paying in full I wouldn’t begin the filing process (obviously) HOWEVER assured me I had retained my lawyer and he’d be able to help me with the more urgent matters. I got my lawyers number while I was at work on Friday, and called him back today (Monday) I did all of this to find out that in fact he couldn’t even see my case until it was paid in full and that he wouldn’t be able to help. Cancelled services a couple of days after making my first initial payment. Received an email stating that I was entitled to a full refund since an attorney never contacted me after I was reassigned twice. It's been over 2 months and I have not received any money back. UPRIGHT Law is trustworthy, professional and has made our case so simple for us.
I suffered a bad work injury that took the doctors 8 hours on the operating table to repair my back. This was a long drawn out process and then fighting industrial insurance to pay me has been a nightmare. With my wages being reduced by 60% we had no choice but to file bankruptcy. Upright law was quick to respond with advice and answering questions. They made the paper work simple. Our case was very complicated and the lawyers and their associates made it easy to deal with. You will be in good hands if you need a great law team.

Got an email on apr23rd saying I would be getting a refund which would take 45 business days , we are way past that now. You are on hold forever when you call them and always get the same story it is a priority but we are back logged. They take your money but dont seem to like giving it back. I would tell anyone thinking of using them. Not to . Which I could put zero star rating.. Still not got my refund . Just filled a claim with the Illinois attorney general.

Okay so they are nice and helpful. But when situation changes where you can't continue with their services expect a serious delay on your refund with a massive reduction. It's amazing how a phone call cost 94 dollars. 1850 reduction I'm now getting 300 back and according I can't even get that and it's going to be 300 at most. I would not recommend this firm at all. I have tried contacting my attorney MULTIPLE times and the only time he responds is if I go to the trustee as well. I have tried to contact the intake area of the firm and no one responds. Ridiculous!

Unfortunately after paying my entire fee, I found I was not in need of filing bankruptcy. I spoke to billing and was told I must wait 30 to 45 business days for my refund! We are at day 40, billing is now telling me there more behind and don't know when I will receive it. UNACCEPTABLE! They had no problem deducting my money $250.00 per month from my bank but to get a refund u must wait for a paper check. I will continue to call them daily and if I don't receive it I will be contacting an attorney to file suit. This is poor customer service at its best. Don't use this firm.......

First off this company has horrible organization and customer service skills. It took me literally 3 weeks to get services I requested to be addressed. They will keep any money's paid contrary to the outdated script they read to you upon agreeing. Read Better Business Bureau complaints as I should have. Ask many questions. UPDATE: After choosing not file bankruptcy Upright Law contacted a debtor whom I owned to announce I was no longer filing thinking I did no longer had the funds to pay at the time. Also they've been sued for not returning people's fees. So now they make a list of items that they claim as a services rendered when they've done nothing to benefit yo . Be careful be wise... Check BBB complaints. They dont stand behind this company at all!

I made the first payment but held off payi g more because the lawyer assigned to me didn't call me back. So i cancelled toward the end of july and have been waiting for my refund since. They take your money on time but take 30 to 50 days to refund it. I'm reporting this to the BBB!
Update: Its been 2 months and i still haven't received my 250 dollar refund. They did absolutely nothing for me and still can't pay me back. This place is a joke and a fraud. Everybody stay away from them. Their BBB rating is a F and not refunding money is the only thing these guys are good at.

If I could post zero stars I would. I wasted over a year of my life with them just to be told they can't help me do the only thing they do, bankruptcy. After over a year making payments to them to file for bankruptcy they tell me they have no lawyers near me. They tell me they will issue me a refund by check mailed to me. Two weeks and 6 phone calls from me later someone there tells me it takes 30 to 45 business days to process the refund. 46 business days later they tell me they only process refunds on Fridays.

One of the worst places I ever done business with in my life if it was criminal lawyers I’d rather sit in jail then give them a dollar

It's been 116 business days since I requested a refund. Calling once every few weeks to check on my "expedited" status. Still no date on when it'll be released. Praying it will come soon.

If I could give Zero stars I would. Stay away! Paid several hundred dollars many weeks into this now still haven't received one call from my actual attorney just their paid help who aren't actual lawyers. I hate this place!

I started making payments to this company a few months ago and recently found out that I am unable to go through bankruptcy because I have been granted student loan forgiveness and you can't do both things. So I called to cancel and obtain a refund for the money I had paid in. I have paid in about $1200 so far and they will only be returning $600... when I spoke to the lawyer, he said he would not be doing any work on my case until had paid in full, why is he getting any of the fee? Also these bogus administrative fees they are claiming, what did you actually do except key in my credit card number and take my money twice a month? And it takes 3 seconds for you to collect my payment, but I have to wait 45 days to get my money back? This is garbage. This company is trash. I'm reporting them to the BBB.

They've outright stolen my money. I paid them initially to handle my case and it's been three months. This company is pure fraud; I STRONGLY cation anyone against them. The BBB concurred, as did the Attorney General after contacting both. I'm going to have to sue for the domination and damages to recoup the money they stole and damage they brought as a result.

Scam they will take your money and when u decide to cancel they will charge all type of fees to avoid giving u a refund then tell u your untitled to a refund of 123$ and it will take three to four weeks and still wont send it check bbb complaints first dont waist your time are money. I would be willing to bet money that the positive reviews you see here were written by employees. This business is a complete and total scam and rip off and I would advise anyone to steer clear of giving them access to your bank account. You need to actually look at the complaints filed against them with the BBB which are in the hundreds and all sound very similar. They are virtually impossible to contact other than a call center who will immediately hang up on you the minute you voice a concern as will the pretend managers they transfer you to. If you do choose to do business with them I would strongly suggest you look into the attorney they place you with because I was highly concerned and regards to that as well. Please know that I finished paying off the $2,200 they were charging in January and have yet to have any progress made on my case. I call back every single week to follow up on my request for a refund and get a run around and I'm told over and over again that they see no record that I have requested anything. After all the research I have done online I cannot believe this company is still in business. I believe that they feed on the fact that they are dealing with people who are obviously under Financial strain and can't afford to take legal action against them once they rip them off. There is a place in hell for people like this.

Opened an acct on March 18 2019, closed said acct on May 15 2019, reason for closing was everything I was promised never transpired besides the weekly payments.. When I called they advised me that my attorney couldnt reach me and he was tired of calling. I pulled a call log from my carrier with one missed call and 5 return calls with no response, that's when I closed my acct. I was advised that it would be 45 days for my refund, you guessed it still waiting. I call daily and talk to their uneducated people only to be told that they're way behind and they've noted mine to be done asap. Unfortunately I'm not sure which route to take.

Authorized one payment and have been charged almost 1000 dollars. I havent spoken to my attorney or the company since the first phone call. Finally called and had my accout stopped and was still charged another 150 dollars. I have never signed the online retainer and have had no work done with my case what so ever. Getting the run around like everybody on here, filling a class act law suit!

I have called so many times. I have been told I'm a priority client. It's been 54 days , minus the two holidays that fell in this refund time. They won't return my calls, they hang up on me. I have spoken to a supervisor. Nothing has been resolved. I've emailed. I have spent tons of time on the phone with them. I would never ever go through this company again. STAY AWAY!!!! Just really wanting my refund and someone to call me with an honest real answer. HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY GOTTEN A REFUND!!!

Horrible company. My fiance has been waiting for her refund since march 2019. All they say is we are backedup. No excuse. You took her money but are refusing to refund it.

i began make payments towards my bankruptcy, about halfway through i was involved in a auto accident, which knocked me out of work. bills were coming in so i asked upright law to refund the money i had paid them since bankruptcy had not been filed yet. of the close to $800 i had paid, they said they could only refund $187. that was on may 10th. it is now sept 9th and many many calls to them later still have not recieved this refund. Do not trust these people, their word neans nothing!!!!

Worst experience, charged 500.00 and did not even use services. Now I am disputing charge with my bank because upright law told me it would be 10 days before a manager would contact me about the charge. They have terrible customer service.

I reached out to Upright Law Firm as I was on the verge of losing my home. They were polite, told me how the process works and went over the costs. They said they couldn’t actually file anything until they received the initial funds to file, in full. I was filing bankruptcy so I was clearly in debt so I did what I could to get them some of the funds before I was to lose my home. That day I believe I set up a $400 payment which, IMMEDIATELY, debited out of my account. I then agreed to have $150/weekly taken out. After two weeks I had switched jobs, I just couldn’t afford to file bankruptcy, and I’d come to the realization that I was going to lose my home. They had received a total of $700 from me and hadn’t done anything for me at this time. When they went to take out the third week of $150, I did not have it in my account. I received multiple calls trying to see when the funds would be available or to set up an alternate arrangement. I informed the gentleman I couldn’t afford it and didn’t know when I could. My account was placed on hold until funds were received in full. About 2 weeks later I called and requested a refund. I was told it would take 2-3 business weeks to process that request and get the refund to me. 2-3 weeks go past and I call back. I speak to a gentleman that says he plays no part in the refunds and that there was no one available that did. He stated he will have someone call me when they call. The next day I miss a call and receive an email in regards to the refund. Once I get someone else on the phone I am told that the 2-3 weeks was to wait for someone to call me and confirm the cancellation and that now it will take 30 days to refund me the money. I was livid, they didn’t give not one care in the world. Well, this was August 5th, now it is September 9th and I call back and speak with someone new. They now tell me it is 30-45 business days to submit the refund and I’m only on my 24th business day. So, I’d say if you’re expecting a refund, realize that even though they take seconds to withdrawal your money, less than 24 hours to call you when they can’t, it will take over 3 months to actually receive a refund and that is their typical timing. My opinion is that if someone is in so much debt, they’re losing their home, they try to struggle to come up with the funds for bankruptcy yet fall short, being the company that then keeps their money for 3 months and acts like it is necessary and an okay timeframe for a return is clearly only worried about you if you’re handing them the money. Once you’re not, you’re the absolute least of their worries and they will make sure you’re made aware of that.
Never ever would I recommend them, nor would I ever give money to anyone that’s even remotely associated with them.

Business day 75 was yesterday (15weeks from cancellation)..Still haven’t received email stating my refund was approved. Customer service rep said that once the email was sent, a refund would be given.However, before that, they said refunds are only given on Fridays at the end of the business day. Whom do you believe?? This should've happened between 30 and 45 days

Complete scam! Dont give them one penny because anything you give, you will never see it back. Even if your case never goes to court or is even filed they will claim they "worked on your case". I tried to cancel 12 times and they kept stealing money out of the account.

Biggest scam! Do not pay this company a single penny! They gave is wrong information and then when it actually came time to file and we already paid all of our money they wouldn’t refund us for giving is bad information. They claim they never had record of it. We have been trying for over 3 months now to get a refund of some sort and can’t get anything! Now we are out $2,035! Which we already are in a bad financial situation so this just made it worse. Read reviews, there are MANY bad reviews.

I finished making my payments in March 2019. At that time I was asked to send in 3 months of my bank statements and to fill out paperwork of items I own and how much they are worth and proof of income . I did everything I was asked and was told my attorney would contact me to do a verbal edit before filing. In July I receive another email asking for the same information I gave back in March. I emailed and stated I already submitted everything. Then I was told I needed to resubmit new bank statements because my case had not been filed. So I went ahead and did as I was asked. After submitting everything again I am told my attorney will be in contact on the next week. I had not received a call yet and we are going into September 2019. I contacted the paralegal over a week ago and asked what’s going on? She stated she would look into it and have the attorney call me. Still no call almost 2 weeks. This is quite ridiculous at this point. I paid 2500.00 and I am not going to keep resubmitting BS paperwork and nothing is getting done. My next course of action is to contact the BAR association as well as the attorney general’s office. I feel at this point my bankruptcy should have been filed and done.

I contacted UpRight's Munster, IN. location. I spoke with a nice young man who went over everything while I was on the phone. He told me how much the payments would be and asked me if I wanted to proceed. He told me the attorney assigned would call me and he did just that. The lawyer that handled my case is out in Crown Point. They always answered the phone and he always called me whenever he was supposed. It took longer than I thought it should once I had paid in full. However, when I went before the Bankruptcy Judge this week everything went smooth! He had provided everything that was required and probably then some! So many people were there with their attorneys that didn't have all the paperwork on hand!

I had a terrible experience with this law firm, and I'm currently still dealing with these people, I decided not to go through with a bankruptcy and requested to have my money refunded. I have been waiting for almost 8 months to receive a refund, when I was told it takes up to 45 business days to receive the refund, not to mention this company lack communication on all ends. I would not recommend them to anyone.

They never answer there phones or give a call back and when you talk to them they cut you off and won't let you speak

Seems like everyone here has the same problem receiving a refund so am i. Has been 52 business days was told it would be 30 to 45 business days untrue. Called several times about my refund just the same old rhetoric. Everyone should file a complaint with the bbb and the attorney General as a group. Then maybe we can get results.

No one could answer a simple question that I had asked before I finished paying them off then when I asked for a refund they charged me work that they supposedly done while I was paying them off what company does work before they are payed in full they sure couldn't answer my question before they got all of their money. I know that I won't recommend them to anyone I talked to a lawyer locally and could answer all of my questions before I gave him a dime

My review above has been up for 2 weeks now they have not yet responded to it and I still have not received my refund now when I call them I either wait on hold forever or choose the option to have them call me back and they have once and they ended up hanging up on me I am going to report them to the BBB and contact a lawyer and get my full refund plus them pay for my Attorney

Please Please Stay away from this company , isn't a law fir just a referral company Nothing else , representing yourself in the court is much much better that's what i will do and i won't forget to escalate this HIgh as much as i can , they play and make use of your financial stress .

Customer service very rude and they lie too much .
Be careful I lost 3035 USD , everyone's saying different story , dont believe the response by the company here it's just copy and paste and dont complain to the BBB nothing would happen .
Go straight to your bank dispute the transactions and file a complaint with consumer protection in Chicago illinois , attorney general office consumers protection .

Been waiting on a refund for almost 4 months. Same old story it hasn't been sent out yet... this is getting old. Decided to not go the bankruptcy route.. debating on whether I should be filing a complaint bbb.

Absolutely the worst experience with these people. Not only did I have to wait a month to hear from a lawyer after paying the balance, I also had to bag top call back a rep at upright law after almost another month if not hearing from the rep I spoke to as will add the lawyer.. So now after all that nonsense I have been waiting for a refund check since June 25th. The money is needed to go with my original choice of a lawyer. Im already at business day 45. I wonder if they steer waiting for other people to pay so I can get my money back. I can't think of another reason why it would take so long for a check back of the money I paid.. Horrible all around.. Then looking at the other reviews I can see im not the only one whose had the same experience
