A year ago I got in an accident, that left me with a nasty neck trauma and a concussion on top of the car damage. During the first week it became pretty clear that managing insurance agents from the at-fault driver and the two agents form my own insurance would be challenging. I couldn't move my neck and typing an email was taking way too long due to a concussion.
Thanks to a friend's recommendation I connected with Luke Mitcheson to take on my case.
(1) I haven'd worked with a layer before, though I learned quickly that I should leave the habit of micromanaging. Luke was very fast with updating me on the case: he'd always shoot an email on top of giving me a call. Since he doesn't charge hourly it was very nice of him.
(2) I got bombarded with bills from MGH for urgent care, which did not make any sense since I was not at-fault. Luke spent a lot of time connecting with the hospital so they started sending bills to and mitigating payments with my insurance instead. I'm not sure whether I would've known what to do with all those bills and letters from the hospital. I even got a call from a mitigator hired by the clinic to find me and get me to pay the bill. Very very unpleasant feeling. But I had Luke as my attorney - so I simply gave them his phone number, and the hassle went away!
(3) It was also nerve wracking being called in for an "Independent doctor" assessment: that's usually a doctor from the at-fault driver's insurance - so it's not in their interest to continue supporting your treatments. I had a good session with Luke beforehand and felt prepared for my exam: I was able to defend my condition and got more treatments thanks to that.
(4) Almost a year after the accident I got a call from Luke with a great news that insurance is ready to settle my case. Even though the compensation he named seemed pretty good, he wanted to go back and keep pushing. And so he did - and a couple days later I got more than I was wishing for!
(5) Just when I hoped bureaucracy was over, we realized that my PIP covered only $1k of my medical bills, putting the other $4k on me! Lawyer's commission does not depend on hick-ups like that. But Luke was so committed to making it right, that he continued fighting for me with PIP and we got those $4k back!
